Ayatollah Khamenei endorses Hassan Rohani as Iran’s new president

ayatollah khamenei endorses hassan rohani as iran’s new president

Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has endorsed Hassan Rohani as the country’s new president. A statement by the leader said, Rohani is a competent individual with more than three decades of service to the Islamic establishment. It added electing such an individual and a huge popular turnout was a clear message to enemies that people have loyalty and trust in the Islamic establishment.

Endorsement of the new President came almost two months after Hassan Rohani was elected as president winning over half of the votes in Iran's June 14 election, which was marked by a 72.7 percent turnout, to secure an outright victory.

The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution has hailed the peaceful transfer of executive power in Iran as a sign of Islamic democracy. Speaking at the ceremony Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said numerous elections have been held in Iran since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, which shows the people are in control of their country's affairs.

Elsewhere Ayatollah Khamenei spoke of the U-S sanctions on Iran and said such pressure has caused problems for the people but has at the same time taught them not to pin their hopes on others and rely on their own capabilities. Making his first speech as the new President Mr. Rohani Hassan Rohani said his administration would take fresh steps toward promotion of Iran’s status at the international stage and removing the imposed sanctions. Rohani added that his administration would adopt moderate policies in running the country. He stressed the administration would distance itself from extremist approaches and instead focus on meeting the people's demands. The Iranian president also described the June presidential election as a great show of democracy and praised the high voter turnout. Rohani has succeeded Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who served as Iran’s president for two consecutive terms. According to Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi over 50 foreign delegations are due to attend the swearing-in ceremony among them a number of Presidents, vice presidents, speakers of parliaments and foreign ministers. After the swearing-in ceremony President Hassan Rohani has two weeks to introduce his cabinet to the Parliament for the vote of confidence.
